Assemble and Address Invitations
Once a postmark location has been selected put all of the invitation together completely. Make sure they are all addressed legibly and sealed. Then take them to a local post office to have weighed for a shipping cost. When ready, purchase stamps, but do not have the local post office mail them.
Once all envelopes are sealed and proper postage adhered, pack all items in a box.
This will ensure they do not get crushed on the way to the postmaster. In order to keep invitations fresh during shipping, one suggestion is to place tissue paper in between each individual one and make sure there is no open space in the box. This will prevent bouncing around during shipping.
Another option is to call the postmaster ahead of time and let him or her know that you will be sending a box of invitations to be postmarked and cancelled from their office. Advise them that you will include a check for the amount of postage needed.
Not all post offices will do this, but some smaller, less busy ones will take the time to do this service for a bride.
Request Cancellation from Postmaster
Before sending the box to the postmaster of the city chosen, include a note to him or her. Make sure to thank them for doing this favor and request to have a special postage cancellation from that city. Post offices in these cities get requests like this daily, so there is a chance they already know what is wanted, but it is a good idea to explain it anyway.
Then ship the box addressed to the postmaster with city and zip code.
Make sure to allow enough extra time for the package to get there, for that post office to process and for the invitations to get to friends and family on time. By doing this two to three weeks earlier than scheduled should allow ample time for delivery.
